Dusadee Rukmanee

Biography

Born in Phrae, Thailand in 1969. Graduated from Chiang Mai University with a Bachelor of Fine Art in 1993. After that Dusadee Rukmanee or Nai Dee took residency training in Muang Kung Village, Hang Dong district, Chiang Mai province. There he acquired more advanced skills in traditional pottery from the local villagers. He then started up his own studio to produce positive attitude sculptures for the Thai art market. His unique sculptures also appear in various public art collections such as at Satien-Dhamma Satarn Monastery and Sununtavanaram Forest Monastery.

Apart from clay, Dusadee works in many different media such as bronze and cement; he also does painting. His favourite hobby is building mud houses!

Artist Statement

I create my work using tradition method of hand building. I use local terracotta clay and fire it in wood-fired kiln. I like sculpt children or novices with large head, a sort of animation. All of my sculptures have positive attitudes which reflect the Budda's composure.
