Artist statement
Pottery required great patience from the start to finish. Each output required much efforts, patience, training and experimentation with new forms of knowledge. I have learned pottery mostly by trial and error. I often went to watch the local villagers making their pots. I observed their throwing techniques and admired their woodfiring kilns. These villagers lead a simple and self-sufficient life.
An elder who I regarded as a father and mentor said to me ten years ago "are you sure you really want to take up pottery? Being a potter, you may not lead an easy life. So, do think about it carefully." As I went along, I gained new knowledge and better insight. I recalled the old man's words and appreciated them far better.
